Powerful Mother Angelica for Daily Growth

About Mother Angelica

Mother Angelica (Rita Antoinette Ras, later known as Mary Angelica of the Annunciation) was an American Catholic nun, television host, founder of the Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Alabama, and the founder and original host of Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). Born on July 20, 1923, in Canton, Ohio, to Italian immigrant parents Raphael Joseph Ras and Annetta Mary Livia, she grew up during the Great Depression. At age 23, Rita suffered a severe car accident that left her bedridden for months. This life-changing event led her to a spiritual awakening and prompted her to join the Franciscan Order of St. Peter the Apostle in Pennsylvania. However, due to health issues, she was released from the order after less than two years. In 1962, Rita moved to Irondale, Alabama, where she began living a solitary life in an abandoned convent. With help from her spiritual advisor, she founded the Our Lady of the Angels Monastery. In 1981, she established EWTN, initially broadcasting from a small studio within the monastery. Throughout her life, Mother Angelica remained a prolific writer and speaker. Her works include "The Return to Order," "Life in the Spirit: The Pathway of Holiness," and "Trusting God." She was also known for her inspiring quotes, such as "If God puts it on your heart to do something, He'll provide the means," and "We must not confuse silence with consent; our Lord often stays silent when we ask Him why." Despite health problems throughout her life, Mother Angelica continued to inspire countless people through her television ministry, writings, and spiritual guidance. She passed away on March 27, 2016, leaving behind a lasting legacy that continues to influence the Catholic Church and beyond. In January 2021, she was declared Venerable by the Catholic Church, an important step towards sainthood.
