About Lindsey Graham

Lindsey Olin Graham (born July 9, 1955) is an American politician and attorney who has been serving as the senior United States Senator from South Carolina since 2003. A member of the Republican Party, he was also a U.S. representative for three terms in the House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003. Born in Central, South Carolina, Graham grew up on a dairy farm and attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned degrees in psychology and accounting. He later attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and practiced law before entering politics. Graham's political career began in 1987 when he was elected to the House of Representatives. During his time in Congress, he developed a reputation as a moderate Republican who often worked across party lines. However, after the September 11 attacks in 2001, Graham's views shifted more toward the conservative side. In 2003, Graham was appointed to fill the seat of the late Senator Strom Thurmond and has been reelected three times since then. He is a member of several committees, including the Armed Services Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Judiciary Committee. Graham gained national attention during his role in the Senate's investigation into the Benghazi attacks and as a key figure in the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. He has been a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, despite previously criticizing him during the 2016 presidential campaign. Graham is known for his blunt and sometimes combative speaking style, which has earned him both criticism and praise. He is also well-known for his love of golf and his southern charm. In addition to his political career, Graham has authored two books: "The Great Debate: How to Protect America in the 21st Century Without Going Broke" (2009) and "The Art of War for Congress" (1987).
