Powerful Jerry Heller for Daily Growth

About Jerry Heller

Jerry Heller (1935-2016) was an American record executive, manager, and entrepreneur, best known for his role in shaping the success of the hip-hop group N.W.A. Born on March 4, 1935, in New York City, Heller spent much of his early life in Brooklyn before moving to California during his teens. After a stint in the U.S. Army and brief college education, he began his career in the music industry as an agent for the William Morris Agency. In 1963, Heller co-founded TAMI Entertainment Inc., a music production company that brought together some of the biggest names in rock 'n' roll for the historic T.A.M.I. Show film. After a few years, he left TAMI and focused on artist management, working with acts like War and The Doors. However, Heller's most significant impact came in the 1980s when he co-founded Ruthless Records with Dr. Dre. Together, they nurtured the emerging hip-hop group N.W.A., whose songs "Straight Outta Compton," "F--k Tha Police," and "Gangsta Rap" became cultural touchstones and sparked controversy for their explicit lyrics and raw depictions of life in Compton, California. Heller's influence extended beyond N.W.A., as Ruthless Records also launched the careers of acts like Ice-T, Eazy-E, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and The D.O.C. Despite his contributions to hip-hop, Heller was not universally loved within the industry, with some accusing him of exploiting and profiteering from the struggles of inner-city youth. Jerry Heller's life and work continue to be a subject of debate in the music world, but there is no denying his impact on the evolution and mainstreaming of hip-hop music. He passed away in Los Angeles on April 14, 2016.

Interpretations of Popular Quotes

"Success is never final, failure is never fatal."

This quote by Jerry Heller emphasizes that both success and failure are transient phases and should not be considered as definitive endpoints in one's journey. Success doesn't mean you've reached the pinnacle of achievement, and failure doesn't condemn you to an unalterable fate. Instead, they serve as stepping stones towards personal growth and future endeavors. In other words, embrace success when it comes, learn from your failures, and continue striving for progress in life.

"Every man dies. Not every man really lives."

Jerry Heller's quote emphasizes that living a meaningful, impactful life is more important than merely existing or going through the motions. It implies that while everyone will eventually die, not everyone experiences life in a way that makes their existence memorable or significant. To truly live means to seize opportunities, pursue passions, and make a positive difference in the world.

"You can't build a future on fear."

This quote by Jerry Heller encourages individuals to not allow fear to dictate their future decisions or aspirations. Instead, one should focus on constructive actions that contribute to building a positive and fulfilling future. Fear, when unchecked, can hinder progress, restrict growth, and prevent us from taking chances in life. By confronting and managing our fears, we can unlock our potential, explore new possibilities, and create a more meaningful and successful future for ourselves.

"The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it."

This quote by Jerry Heller emphasizes that the magnitude of a challenge or obstacle is directly proportional to the honor and triumph one experiences when successfully overcoming it. It underscores the idea that the greater the struggle, the greater the sense of accomplishment and recognition. In essence, it's an encouragement to face adversity head-on and strive for personal growth and excellence by tackling seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

"The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary."

The quote emphasizes that success is not something that just happens or is achieved effortlessly; rather, it's a result of hard work. In other words, success comes after the dedication, perseverance, and tireless efforts one puts into their endeavors. Just as 'success' is found following the word 'work' in a dictionary, so too should it follow in real life.

I'm a child of the sixties. I grew up with a president who was a crook, who put us into the most unpopular war in history, who had no communication with people under thirty. I had seen the Symbionese Liberation Army and the Panthers and the Diggers; I understood what they were about.

Eazy was an exceptional human being. He was a visionary. He was very Machiavellian, he understood power and how to use it. He was a good-hearted guy, a good father, just an exemplary human being. I couldn't be any prouder of him than if he had been my blood son.

Suge was a part-time security guard at Ruthless. He can be a very charming guy, and my initial instincts were to help him. Eazy was more perceptive: he always thought he was going to be a problem.

Who were the biggest acts in the world in 1987? Guns N' Roses and Metallica. I shamelessly pandered to surfers and skateboarders, and in pictures from then, you'll see Slash and those guys wearing N.W.A stuff. If they thought it was cool, people in Kansas and Wyoming would buy it. That's how we broached the subject.

One thing that N.W.A did, as Larry Flynt did before them, was to expand the boundaries of our reliance upon the good sense of the people to determine what's right and what isn't, what's obscene and what isn't, and what's immoral and what isn't.

N.W.A were the audio-documentarians of their time. They were trying to shock people with the violence of their language and the subjects they were talking about. The fact that they dressed in guerilla outfits like the Black Panthers made them shocking by their appearance as well.

The problem of the Panthers is that they scared people. The music of N.W.A didn't scare people; it taught people what it was like to grow up in our inner cities.

That's how I want to be judged - by what I've done, not by what people like Ice Cube and Dr. Dre have said about me.

N.W.A had something in common with the Rolling Stones and MC5 and groups like that: the voice of rebellion. It's rebellion against your parents. It's rebellion against the system. It's rebellion against society.
