Christo Vladimirov Javacheff, professionally known as Christo, was born on June 13, 1935, in Gabrovo, Bulgaria. Raised in a family of five children, Christo showed an early interest in art, often drawing and painting during his free time. In 1957, he emigrated to Australia and later moved to Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic), where he studied at the School of Applied Arts-Decorative Art. In 1964, Christo met Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guerre, who would become his artistic partner, collaborator, and wife until her death in 2009. Together, they formed the duo known as Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Their collaborative works aimed to create temporary art installations that interacted with natural landscapes and urban environments.
