About Charlie Rose

Charlie Rose (born Charles Peachtree Rose, Jr., on January 5, 1942) is an American journalist, television host, and interviewer known for his insightful and probing style. Born in Henderson, North Carolina, Rose grew up in Gainesville, Georgia. He attended Duke University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science in 1964. Rose's journalistic career began in 1970 when he joined CBS News as a Washington-based reporter. Over the next two decades, he covered some of the most significant events of the late 20th century, including the Watergate scandal, the Iran Hostage Crisis, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 1984, Rose moved to NBC News where he hosted "Today" for four years. In 1993, Rose returned to CBS as co-anchor of the "CBS This Morning" program. However, it was his creation in 1996 of "The Charlie Rose Show," which aired on PBS, that solidified his reputation as one of America's premier interviewers. The show, which ran until 2018, featured in-depth conversations with a diverse range of guests from the worlds of politics, science, art, and literature. Rose has been recognized with numerous awards for his journalistic work, including 13 News & Documentary Emmy Awards and four George Foster Peabody Awards. In 2014, Duke University awarded Rose an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. Despite a series of sexual misconduct allegations in late 2017, which resulted in the cancellation of his show, Rose continues to be celebrated for his contributions to journalism and public discourse. His interviews remain influential and widely cited sources for scholars and students of politics, culture, and media.
