About Billy Graham

Billy Graham (November 7, 1918 – February 21, 2018) was an influential American evangelist, author, and advisor to U.S. presidents. Known as "America's Pastor," his sermons reached millions around the world during a career spanning more than six decades. Born on a small dairy farm in Charlotte, North Carolina, Graham was the fourth of five children. His family attended the nearby Mordecai Presbyterian Church, where he felt God's calling at age 15. After high school, he enrolled in Bob Jones College but transferred to Florida Bible Institute (now Trinity Evangelical Divinity School) and graduated in 1939. In 1940, Graham co-founded Youth for Christ International with Torrey Johnson. During World War II, he conducted evangelistic campaigns across the United States. His first crusade was in Grand Rapids, Michigan, from June 27 to July 6, 1947. This event attracted over 65,000 people and made Graham a household name. In his career, Graham organized crusades in more than 185 countries and territories on all continents. He advised multiple U.S. presidents, including Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and Bill Clinton. Graham authored numerous books, including "Peace with God" (1953), "The Jesus Generation" (1971), "Angels" (1982), and "Nearing Home" (1994). His most famous work is likely "The Bible Way of Life," which sold over 3 million copies. In his later years, Graham retired from active ministry but continued to preach occasionally. He died at age 99 in his home in Montreat, North Carolina. His influence extended far beyond evangelical Christianity and made an indelible impact on American religious life.
